How to preserve your flowers
Caring for your flowers before collection.
At Ever After Resin, the beauty of your finished piece begins long before the resin is poured. The condition of your flowers at the time of collection directly impacts how they will look preserved forever. Following these simple steps will help ensure your blooms retain their colour, form and integrity, exactly as you remember them.
Cutting your stems.
When you first receive your flowers, trim each stem at a 45-degree angle using sharp scissors or a clean knife. This increases the surface area for water absorption and prevents the stem from sitting flat against the base of the vase. For woody-stemmed flowers such as roses, a clean bevelled cut is especially important. Re-cut stems every 2–3 days to maintain consistent hydration. Where possible, cut stems underwater to prevent air bubbles from forming and blocking water uptake.
Caring for your vase and water.
Choose a clean vase large enough to allow your flowers to breathe without crowding. Remove any leaves that would sit below the waterline, these decay quickly and introduce bacteria that shorten the life of your blooms. Fill the vase with room temperature water and change it every 2–3 days, cleaning the vase thoroughly each time. Adding a teaspoon of baking soda, a few drops of bleach, or a sachet of flower food will help keep your water clean and your flowers nourished.
Environment and placement.
Place your vase in a bright location away from direct sunlight, heat sources, air conditioning vents and drafts, all of which can dehydrate petals and cause premature wilting. Avoid placing your flowers near ripening fruit, which releases ethylene gas and accelerates wilting. Lightly mist petals with water using a spray bottle once a day to maintain humidity.
A note on timing.
For the best preservation results, we recommend flowers are collected within 3–5 days of your event. The fresher your flowers at the time of collection, the more vivid and beautiful they will appear in your finished piece. If your event has already passed and your flowers have begun to dry naturally, please contact us, we will advise you on the best course of action.
Ready for collection?
Once your consultation is confirmed and your collection day is arranged, simply keep your flowers in water until our team arrives. We will take care of everything from that point forward, handling your blooms with the same care and reverence that your memory deserves.
